Echinacea angustifolia has been utilized for decades to aid the immune system in combating acute illnesses such as colds, sore throats, allergies, and other upper respiratory tract infections.

In the July 2007 issue of The Lancet, a meta-analysis of various research articles on Echinacea use convincingly showed that Echinacea reduced both the duration of a cold by 1-4 days, and the odds of developing a cold by 58%. Zand Herbal mist contains a high concentration and potency of Echinacea angustifolia.

A randomized, double-blind, placebo controlled study in 2006 analyzed the usefulness of Sage spray to treat acute pharyngitis. Analyzing the throat pain intensity every 15 minutes, it was determined that Sage spray offered a superior response compared to placebo.

Licorice root aids in reducing coughing by soothing the mucus linings of the throat and upper lung. It also has mild anti-inflammatory action.

Sage leaf, similar to Echinacea, has a long history of use in lessening inflammation of the throat.

Hyssop is used to support a healthy respiratory tract. It aids in clearing nasal congestion, soothing irritation, and acts as a mild expectorant.

Goldenseal and Isatis root are used in combination for their antibacterial and antiviral properties. They also have anti-inflammatory properties.
