• Colostrum contains all five immunoglobulins needed for immune protection in humans: IgA, IgD, IgE, IgG and IgM. It also contains insulin-like growth factors (IGFs) and IGF binding proteins (IGFBPs). The secretory Ig-A contained in colostrum is an important antibody that provides immune protection to the linings of the body, including the lungs and the gastrointestinal tract. These important substances were included in breast milk by nature to protect the newborn from infections by transferring immunity from the mother until its own immune system could mature.

• Bovine colostrum products have been shown to be effective for the prevention and treatment of various infectious diseases in humans, including diseases caused by Escherichia coli and rotavirus, as well as Shigella flexneri, Clostridium difficile, Streptococcus mutans, Cryptosporidium parvum, and Helicobacter pylori. A number of clinical trials are currently in progress to evaluate the efficacy of colostrum products for the prevention and treatment of a number of different human infections, including infections with antibiotic-resistant bacteria.
